An organization for vulnerable groups and refugees, aiming at the immediate creation of centres of temporary accommodation, with priority given to single-parent families, pregnant women, infants and young children, unaccompanied minors.
One of our goals is to end homelessness in Greece. We aim to do this by creating a project, through partnerships with municipalities, where It builds, renovates and leases buildings in towns and cities across Greece and makes housing available to homeless people. One of our future plan is to find donors and make partnerships in order to fulfill this project in Greece. We believe the time has come to stop managing homelessness and start ending it.
We decided to form a Non-Profitable Social Structure, that may guarantee the conditions for the relocation of population in the countryside, at available housing spaces, with professional rehabilitation, providing assistance and knowledge to adopt new models of production and management.
Our goal is to assist the financially weak to make a fresh start, to be equally reintegrated in the Greek economy, to become the nucleus of a new modern and efficient productive force; To create the conditions for a respectable living so that our fellow men may start a new life with potential. We aim to stop the perpetuation of the state of “charity”, where people are housed, fed and kept in spaces with no future.
The accomplishment of our goals will contribute to the reduction of extreme poverty, will exploit abandoned areas and buildings, will bring to life deserted settlements, will provide migrants and refugees with the necessary supplies and resources to repatriate and set up in their homelands modern social and economic functions that will restrain the urge to migrate for a better tomorrow.
A. Create permanent accommodation structures for vulnerable groups
Vulnerable social groups are accommodated, for a short or longer period, in suitably designed buildings that either belong to NGO SYNANTISIS or are ceded for this purpose to SYNANTISIS by the state, corporations or individuals (with specific contract and strictly defined use).
Priority is given to families with underage children. The needs of the applicants are evaluated in order to help those in greater need.
The existing accommodation structures created by the Greek state are usually temporary; they do not offer decent living conditions for long and they do not suffice to meet demand especially during dense refugee flows.
Our goal is to create “permanent” structures that will be able to accommodate vulnerable social groups in respectable living conditions.
B. Collect essential items
In co-operation with all NGOs in Greece and the EU that are engaged in solidarity actions, we collect clothes, food, medicines, products of personal hygiene for the guests in temporary structures. At the same time, we launch campaigns to call out professionals (doctors, psychologists, social workers, craftsmen) to offer voluntary services in our structures. Last, the NGO seeks voluntary financial support to cover operating costs (electricity, oil, damage restoration materials).
C. Organize relocation
We direct vulnerable groups that are housed in temporary structures towards more permanent accommodation structures in the countryside, at NGO’s guesthouses. There, we provide small plots for cultivation that will allow for their financial recovery. We provide the equipment for farming, while professional staff trains them in modern and efficient crops. At the same time, we seek to make special contracts for the distribution of their products (contractual agriculture), we ensure the legal, financial and accounting support through NGO cluster, and through legal agreement between the NGO and the beneficiaries, we provide legal recognition of the new farmers as the appropriators of almost the entire percentage of net profit (a small portion of net profit goes to support the operation of this entire effort and its further development).
D. Training Centers
The NGO’s training centers, set up at the centres of “permanent” accommodation, offer courses on proper farming methods along with basic principles of financial and business management, product distribution, Greek, English, basic computer and internet skills. Beneficiaries of the action endowed with particular expertise will have the possibility to participate in a program of knowledge transfer (e.g. a beneficiary with a background in business management etc.)
E. “Recycle” Resources
Resources allocated for the rehabilitation of our socially vulnerable fellow men must help as many as possible. For this purpose, they are not granted indefinitely, but for a specific period of time which varies according to the actual needs of the beneficiaries.
Every single case is treated individually, so that each beneficiary can acquire personal property that will lift weight off the structures, while the beneficiary will not be entirely excluded from the system of mutual aid that we offer. The NGO makes sure to expand its realty (residential buildings, agricultural land, utility and training spaces) and may transfer properties and arable land to beneficiaries, while they may retain, if the wish, their right to the remaining benefits of the NGO (agricultural contracts, legal - accounting aid, exploitation of supporting infrastructure, training etc.)
